Hi,

There's a problem with the site when you enter the Swedish character 'ö' for instance. Have a look at the location I live in my profile and you'll see the problem. The character after 'ö' seem to be in capital letter for some reason. So instead of

i.e Norrköping it says NorrköPIng

Food tracking feature wanted!

I sure wish the food tracker would let me move the whole day to a different day. I often load things in the wrong day, is there a way to do this?

Calorie Allowance

I have some serious issues with how myfitnesspal presents the food diary. I appreciate that you won't go below 1200 calorie allowance, but even that is pretty low. So if I only eat 1000 calories in a day, it says "Erin completed her food diary and was under her calorie goal", like this is something to be proud of. It then says "if every day were like today, you'd weigh ___ in 5 weeks."
Do NOT celebrate me starving myself! If I already have an eating disorder mindset seeing that 5 week weight is only going to encourage me to under eat more! The tiny disclaimer at the bottom wont help. I'm thinking of teenage girls who are desperate to be thin, and see that 5 week number so they continue to go way under their calories.
Oh and if I eat 1201 calories it is considered 'over' with a big -1 in my allowance, like I'm bad. I shouldn't have that big red number glaring at me when in fact it is much healthier to go a few calories over 1200 than under. It makes me feel like I failed somehow, when really it is your presentation that is failing me.
How are we supposed to have a healthy relationship with food this way?? I really think instead of a solid 1200 number (or any number), it should be a range, such as each between 1200-1300 calories. That gives a lot more wiggle room for people to feel successful without starving themselves. The home page should say 'Erin completed her food diary and was in her calorie range!" and if I am below the range I shouldn't get any congratulations, or my 5 week weight promising a super skinny body in 5 weeks, I should get a serious warning that I'm not eating enough. I really think you are sending the wrong message with your current system and although I like to see what's in my food it is making me consider leaving.

Can home screen list categories other than calories?

Hi. My primary focus is carbs rather than calories. I also use very little packaged food so am easy to use recipe function is crucial. Yours seems good tho I have only watched the video so far. I would prefer my home screen list my net carbs/carbs remaining. Is there a way to set it for carbs rather than calories? Thanks!

It would be nice to have a wider variety for the weight reports. Is it possible to see my weight for June of 2012 to December of 2012, or just see certain dates? Thanks!!

Sodium requirements!

2500 mg of sodium is WAY too high. The recommended daily intake of sodium by the Canada Food Guide, which was made up by an independent group of nutritionists, is only 1500 mg. If people are tracking their sodium (as most people should be) it should be based on a medically safe level. 1500 is the recommended amount, with the recommended maximum amount being 2300. 2400 and 2500, the numbers used to base the "% daily value" on food items, are actually dangerous.

Love this website... would be even better if:

1. There was some sort of easy view of a weekly calorie and nutrition tally -- some of us go under on calories intentionally for a couple of days before a family holiday for example so that we are so constrained with visitors. If it takes 3500 calories "under" per pound per week, would be nice to see that I am at 3400 for example for the week.

2. I would love it if the tool could look at where I am nutritionally after lunch and make recommendations for dinner foods to help complete my caloric and nutritional requirements.

3. Would love to see Superfoods / nutritionally dense foods highlighted so that we make more choices for these foods.

4. Would love to see a complete nutritional summary each day/week -- not just standard fat/carb/pro/fiber... I was able to add Calcium for example, and was surprised at how infrequently I meet my requirements when in fact I eat a very healthy diet. It would be helpful to see the full vitamin mineral complex if possible to see where else I have deficits.

Thank you so much and keep up the GREAT work!!!

Ability to sort foods better

$

I am a new user to the site, and perhapps after using it for a while I will generate a decent list of recent foods to pull from. However, right now its a bit trouble some to find exactly what I am looking for. So I have two sort suggestions that would make my life easier.

1. The ability to sort by myfitnesspal added and user added. An example, I was entering a recipe and I wanted to add salt, regular old table salt. I knew that it must be a base ingredient, however searching for salt got be everything but. I refined the search to table salt and then had to wade though all entries to look for the one entry that did have a star in front of it. Repeat this step for pepper, onions, and so on and it gets annoying.

2. The ability to sort by user approval level. There are tons and tons of duplicates, normally one has 40 confirmations and others have 1-5. As a user I have 3 options. A) Be lazy and just choose one at random. B) Choose one and compare it the label. C) Click on each entry and see which one has the highest approval rating. The later is easy to implement, and means the majority of users will have more accurate data with less work.

Both these should be very easy to implement. In fact they can be combined, if you fear 4 radio buttons will clutter the UI. A sort by rating button could put site data above user data and then sort the user data by rating.

App notifications for calorie/exercise status

This is a suggestion for the app, although it could probably be done on the web site as well. I haven't found a food tracking app with this feature anywhere.

It would be great if I could set the app to notify me of my calorie or exercise status at specific times of the day. This would help with motivation and staying within guidelines, especially on days where I'm too busy to check the app or simply forget.

Some examples:
Daily at 11am: Tell me how many calories I have remaining for the day so I know how much I can have for lunch.
Daily at 1pm: Remind me that I haven't entered my lunch calories yet.
Daily at 5pm: Tell me how many calories I have remaining for the day so that I can think about the best choice for dinner while on my commute instead of getting home, finding something yummy and then realizing that I don't have enough calories for it.
Every 2 days: Warn me that I haven't met my exercise goals for the last 2 days.
Weekly: Notify me telling me my average daily calories for the last week were over/under my daily goal.

Thanks!

Wieght increases

Why do my weight increases not get shown? I've gained 4lbs since my last check in and I get nothing shown!

However, If I were loose 1lb it'd show up in a heartbeat,

Is this really "MyFitnessPal", or is this actually "Myweightlosspal"?

I know this place is probably close to 90% weight loss, but you should still cater for the few of us that are on the opposite track, It still takes just as much hard work in the gym and the kitchen!

Link accts/"earned" calories/export data

$

I was thinking of a few suggestions that I think would be helpful.

- The ability to link more than one MFP account into a "household" or something similar. It seems like there are multiple families, partners, etc that both use MFP, and it would be helpful to be able to share a private recipe or add to each other's accounts to make logging food a little less time intensive. For example, if my boyfriend and I cook together, then we're eating the exact same food, so it would be silly for both of us to have to do the work to look up each ingredient and add it individually.

-Have the option to turn off earned calories from exercise. I have a Bodymedia fit, and it updates with earned calories. I've set my calorie goals based on my TDEE, so it already accounts for exercise calories. I do pay attention, but sometimes it catches me off guard, and I would rather just turn off the extra earned calories.

-Could we have a feature to export data into excel files? It would be nice for graphing trends on our own and seeing what variables influence our weight loss on a more individual basis.

Thanks!

Changing goals

$

I've noticed that when I change my calorie goals or my macro goals that it alters all of my historical data as well.

for example:
Last week, my calorie goal was set to 2,000 calories per day. This week, I've decided to decrease my calories by 200 based on some feedback from my trainer and nutritionist. Now that I've chaged my calorie goal to 1800, all of my data changes from previous weeks. Where I ate under my calorie goal last week, I am now showing I ate over. This is frustrating when I look at my stats over time and compare them to my weight lost as well as feeling like I did not meet my daily, weekly, or monthly goals if I look back on previous weeks.

Mike -Any way you can change the site so historical data can remain unaltered and only the calories and macros moving forward can be changed?

Suggestion: nutrients per 100 gram, personalized servings

I just started using MFP on iPad and via the website. I am impressed by the size of the food database, but at the same time the database is not very useful. And adding food is a pain in the neck.

This is because the nutrients are based on the size of the servings. Not based on a standardized quantity (100 grams in metric countries). And those are usually not MY servings.

Why not let users add foods to the database based on their nutrients per 100 gram. And then let users use a personal serving.

The major advantage would be that you could copy the nutrient information that is on the package of the product. Everyone can benefit from that and use those values to calculate the values for their own serving (calculating done by MFP).

Worthless app kinda

Hi,

Very offensie subject in the header but it must be said of you want to achieve a top app.

So when filling in the sets/reps/weight part
Why can you not insert different reps? One can only insert 1 type of rep.
But as most BB I have different reps.

So please adjust this issue if you want to have a complete app.

Also a compliment for the database it is incredible, good job on that!

Good day,

Suggestion/Request - of great importance to females

I (and other women I have talked to) would find it very beneficial to be able to track my menstrual cycle with the same program where I log my food, weight, and exercise. This would make it much easier to identify the different impacts various 'times of the month' have on our weight, endurance, and appetites. Whether we like it or not, hormones have a huge impact on the way our body handles different stressors, and the more information we can collate in one place, the better equipped we can be to deal with what life throws us.

Please!!! I'm sure I'm not the first nor the last to request this feature. I really do think it would be a great improvement to an already impressive database. Thanks for your consideration!

Recent Blog Posts?

While it's nice to see Recent Forum posts (keeps you from just visiting your groups sometimes), there is only an option on the My Home tab for Popular Blog posts. This is a great option, but it would be nice to also see Recent Blog posts too (not recently promoted). If friends don't promote someone's blog, it won't get listed in that list, and I don't know how many people go into the blogs to look through them randomly, but it doesn't seem like very many.

I would love to see a fiber column as this is an important component to strive for daily (20-30g).

Food Database - Display Last Confirmed Date

$

When you search the food database, and click on a particular item, it displays the details to the right. Just below the name of the item, it lists the number of confirmations. This is extremely useful when you do not have the packaging or other info handy to verify.

Since nutritional info can often change, it would also be helpful to know the last date that an item's info was confirmed. I often don't bother to verify/confirm the info when a number of others already have. If I knew, though, that the info had not been verified/confirmed in some time, then I would be more inclined to verify the info.

7 day average report suggestion

$

I would like to suggest a report that would create an average of your Daily Diary totals for calories, carbs, fat, protein, cholesterol, sodium, sugar, and fiber. For instance Sunday you go over your calories, Monday you go under your calories, Tuesday you hit your calorie limit, Wednesday you go under your calories, Thursday you go over, etc. So you get an average of 1800+1500+1600+1400+1800+1500+1300=10900 divided by 7=1557. My daily calorie goal is 1600 so I managed an average that fits in my goals despite fudging some days and running short others.

This would be nice for the exercise report as well since you would know if you were hitting your goal even though you have time to exercise some days and no time others and extra time on other days.

I used to count my calories on the SlimFast website when I lost 78 pounds about 8 years ago. They did a report like this and it was really nice. I usually eat all my meals at home, but on Sundays I eat at my in-laws and it is usually the full fat and calorie version of any recipe she fixes. The average report allowed me to stay on track the rest of the week to make up for it. SlimFast no longer allows calorie counting diaries on their website unless you use their recipes and products so when I decided to diet again, I had to find a new website. Someone at church told me about MyFitnessPal and I Love it. Much easier to use than SlimFast was as well.

I wish there was an option to record your exercise but not have the calories added automatically. I prefer to try and stay within my allotted calories and would prefer to use exercise calories only occasionally.
